What we know about you at 13 months old...

You are still the cutest thing ever.

You are nearly loved to death every day.

Teeth #7 & 8 have popped through.  That makes the four front teeth and a molar on top and three of the front teeth on the bottom.  You have four more on the way!

You wag your finger and say "na-na-na" when you do something you know is wrong, but you continue to do it anyway.

You can point to your nose, your ear, your belly, and your mouth.

You point to your nose by sticking your finger IN it.

You point to your mouth by opening wide and hitting the back of your wrist on it while saying "ah-ah-ah-ah."

You know where your belly is, but often get it confused with "blankie," which makes you say "oooooohhh" with your mouth in a perfect "O".

You give big, open-mouthed, slobbery kisses and then you say "ooooohhhh."

You say "moe" when you want to eat.  If we don't give you something immediately, you say it over and over and over.  We liken it to the seagulls on Finding Nemo when they say "mine mine mine mine."

You say "grnk" for drink, but we're the only ones who have any idea what this means.

You say "hiiiiiiiiii" when someone walks in the room.

You say "giddown" and "ah-done."  Again, we may be the only ones who understand this.

You are still pulling up on everything and doing a bit of cruising but have yet to take any steps or balance on your own, except for one time at soccer practice when you accidentally stood by yourself for about five seconds.

You are an eating machine.  A bottomless pit.

We're pretty sure you speak Amharic.  You have a lot to say, but we can't understand much of it.

You took a nap the other day and woke up with the front of your hair as straight as can be.  We laughed for a long time.

You refuse to take a nap if we are out and about.  Not in your stroller.  Not in the Ergo.  Not in the car.

You sleep VERY well at home and usually prefer to be put to bed awake.

Dancing seems to be an involuntary response.  You just can't help yourself.

Have I mentioned before that you have a toe that doesn't quite fit?  Your toes are all about the same length, rather Flintstone-like, and the one in the middle sticks up.  It's freaking adorable.

You hate sitting still to have your hair combed, but mommy can't stand the thought of getting it cut.  Daddy, on the other hand, would like you to have cornrows ASAP.  Either that or a mo-hawk.

There are not enough gates or safety devices in this world to keep you contained.  You are into EVERYTHING and could still care less about your toys.  You much prefer Gladware, fireplaces, dog food, and remotes.

All bundled up to take sisters to school!

Another favorite toy - the dishwasher!

My favorite view.

First trip to the pumpkin patch!

First tractor ride!

Your being a part of our family is still quite surreal sometimes, but we can't imagine you not being with us.  You're stuck with us kiddo!

  1. Ok, Lily has the SAME toe issues on her feet. It was one of the first things I noticed about her when we got her...weird, I know. It's her 2nd toe on each foot and it basically sits on top of the other toes so that if she has a footprint taken it looks like she has only 4 toes. I was told by another mom that her kid grew out of it years later. It seems like she has very minor improvement already, but yes, it is stinking cute!
