Forging ahead...

We had our phone call this morning with a social worker from the Sacramento office for Holt International. It was mostly an informative call, welcoming us to the program, and letting us know what to expect. She gave us a list of various papers and forms we need to fill out and send to their office, which shouldn't require too much work at all. At that point, we'll be put in touch with the social worker that will perform our home study and compile all of the data necessary for that part of the process. It was all very basic...blah, blah, blah...kind of stuff, but there were two things that really made our eyes widen and butterflies flutter:

1. When we travel to ET, we will most likely meet the birth family. We knew this was a possibility, but we didn't realize how likely it was. We will drive eight hours to Durame and will have the opportunity to take pictures, video, and chat with the birth family. Wow. Not really sure how we're going to hand this emotionally. I mean...what do you say to the people who are giving you their child?? "Thanks" doesn't seem like quite enough.

The other, and much more eye-widening...

2. WE MAY BE MATCHED WITH A BABY WITHIN 2-3 MONTHS!! No, really. Really? Really. How awesome would that be?! We would have pictures, background info, etc! After the referral, it would still be approx. nine months before traveling, but still...a baby in 2-3 months! It'll kinda be like our 20 week ultrasound pics...
